Tattoo Aftercare:
Approximate Healing Time:
2-4 weeks
Supplies Needed:
-
Liquid Non-scented Antibacterial soap (i.e. Liquid Gold Dial)
-
Aftercare Ointment (use as recommended by your artist; i.e. Aquafor)
-
Mild skin lotion (non-fragrance)
Instructions:
1) Keep your new tattoo bandaged for approximately one (1) to two (2) hours.
2) Carefully remove bandage and wash entire area with mild soap and cool to luke-warm water.
3) Dry the area, and re-apply artist recommended ointment. Use only a very thin coating and continue to re-apply it two-four (2-4) times daily for no less than two (2) to three (3) days, or as recommended.
4) Once "flaking" (similar to a sunburn flaking) begins, repeat steps 1-3 using a non-scented lotion to moisturize the tattoo area.
DO NOT re-bandage the tattoo once bandage has been removed, unless otherwise directed by your artist. A new bandage may stick to the bandage and damage can occur.
DO NOT use a washcloth when washing your tattoo. This is abrasive, can cause irritation, and can introduce bacteria to the healing tattoo unnecessarily.
DO NOT allow loose fabric (especially "fuzzy" clothing come into contact with the tattoo area while healing. Consult with your artist regarding recommendations for protecting your tattoo.
DO NOT submerge your tattoo under water while healing. This includes bathtubs, Lakes, Ponds, Pools and HotTubs.
Additional Considerations:
Avoid sunburn, salt or chlorine water, or hot tubs until your tattoo is completely healed.
In the event mild scabbing occurs, do not pick at or attempt to “wash off” the scab. Allow it to do so by itself.
